Abdul-Aziz Badla,MD is a graduate of Aleppo University College of Medicine in Syria.

He has been practicing in the ophthalmology department in Ibn AlNafis Hospital in Damascus where he got the master degree in 1993. His practice focuses on management of eye trauma cases, cataract surgery, vitreoretinal procedures, intravitreal injections and laser photocoagulations.

He got the Clinical Sciences Assessment In Ophthalmology (International Council Of Ophthalmology) 2003 and The Basic Science Assessment in Opthalmology Assessment In Ophthalmology including Optic And Refraction (International Council Of Ophthalmology), United Kingdom 1999.

He is now holding the Syrian Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr.Badla has occupied several positions during his working life such as the clinical fellow in vitreoretina in El-Maghraby Eye Hospital(KSA), chief of vitreoretinal surgery unit in Damascus Surgical Eye hospital(Syria) and currently he is the head of ophthalmology department in the Saudi-German Hospital(Dubai-UAE).

He is currently the General Secretary of the Middle East Africa Vitreo Retinal Society.

Abdulla A. Naqi is a fellowship-trained glaucoma, cataract, and anterior segment Surgeon with practice focus on the surgical management of glaucoma, complex cataract and intraocular lens complications. He is Board Certified in Ophthalmology in Canada. He also holds the Diploma of the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO). He is an active fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and is the Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Emirates ophthalmological Society (ESO)

Dr. Naqi has been working with Dubai Heath Authority since 1998. He progressed in DHA Ophthalmology department and became the Head of the Department from 2014-2016. During his leadership he established the residency program in Ophthalmology. He also moved the ophthalmology service in Dubai Hospital to become a tertiary care with subspecialties offered in the hospitals. Additionally, he established the community care ophthalmology section that is provided at the community health centers in Dubai. Currently, he holds the role of the Chairman of the Medical Council of Dubai Hospital.

Dr. Naqi Joined Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Center as the Specialist Ophthalmologist and spent 4 years (2010-2014) providing care to his private patients. During that time he was instrumental in starting the Ophthalmology operating room at the center.

He founded his own surgical day hospital on December 2013, providing both outpatient care and surgical intervention in a fast and economic fashion. The center now provides care to more than 10000 patients both national and international.

Dr. Naqi graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland with the bachelor degree in Medicine and Surgery with the degree of MB, BCH. He was also given the License of the Royal College of Surgeon and physicians in Ireland LRCP.

He joined the Residency program in Ophthalmology at McGill University in Montreal Canada (2002). He obtained the Royal College of Surgeons certification and became a Canadian Board-Certified ophthalmologist (2007). Dr. Naqi completed his education with 2 years Fellowship in Glaucoma and Advanced Anterior Segment Surgery (GAAS) under the direct supervision of the world-renowned ophthalmologist Dr. Ike Ahmed at the University of Toronto, Canada (2007-2009) were he was exposed to most of the MIGS from their development stage.

His skills are in the surgical field of Cataract and Glaucoma. He has performed thousands of procedures in the last 10 years in the field of complex cataract, anterior segment reconstruction, laser vision corrections and glaucoma surgeries. He has also been invited to speak on both complex cataracts issues, refractive surgery and Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS).

Ahmed Elbarky, (M.D., FRCS ophthalmology Glasgow (UK) is Graduated from medical school, in 1997. He achieved the Medical Doctorate degree in Ophthalmology in 2006 and the fellowship degree from Royal College of Physicians and surgeons of Glasgow in the same year.

He is assistant professor of Ophthalmology at Benha Faculty of Medicine, Benha University from 2017 till now. Currently he is Consultant Vitreoretinal surgeon and Chief of Retina unit at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), Abu Dhabi, UAE. Dr Elbarky’s main subject of interest is medical and surgical management of vitreoretinal diseases. In 2011 he joined Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) where he continued and established the Retina unit. He continued to develop this service and currently Sheikh Khalifa Medical City is one of the main referral centers for vitreoretinal surgery in UAE. Dr El Barky is also a core faculty of the ophthalmology residency program at Abu Dhabi, which is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Elbarky is also a faculty member of European School for Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology (ESASO), Lugano, Switzerland. He has a several publications in different peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals.

Ahmed El Khashab

Ahmed El Khashab is the Head of Vitreoretinal Unit and the Co-founder and the Medical Director of Eye Consultants Center since June 2013. Previously, he filled the position of Head of Vitreoretinal department in Magrabi Eye Hospitals in Al Madinah (KSA), Abu Dhabi and Dubai (UAE) from 2005 -2012. He then moved on to fill the position of the Head of the Vitreoretinal unit and Diabetic Eye Center in Al Sharif Eye Center in Dubai.

Furthermore, Dr. El Khashab is a co-founder of the Gulf Retina Group and is the Head of its Scientific Committee. He’s also the treasurer of the ESO Retina and Uveitis club. He has been the regional representative in the American Society of Retina Specialists since 2015. He has been a reviewer of the Middle East Edition of the British Journal of Ophthalmology since 2014.

Dr. El Khashab did thousands of successful vitreoretinal and anterior segment procedures for all different indications from diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, macular surgeries, retinopathy of prematurity, trauma and phacoemulsification during his over 20 years of Experience.

He received his Medical degree with honors from Ain Shams University Cairo, Egypt in 1995. He then, completed a three-year Ophthalmology Residency program and received his master’s degree in Ophthalmology (excellent) from Ain Sham University. Following this, he started his specialized Vitreoretinal surgical training in El Noor Eye Hospital in Egypt and Magrabi Eye Hospital in KSA then completed the European Vitreoretinal Training program in Germany.

He received his Diploma of Fellowship in Ophthalmology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2003. In that year, he became a certified member of the International Council of Ophthalmology of Cambridge.

Ahmed Al Saadi graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in Al Ain in 1999 (Distinction with Honour). He is the CMO of ZMH. He received multiple awards of Excellence throughout the medical school. He joined Ophthalmology program in McGill University, Canada, July 2001 and graduated in 2006 from the Royal College of Surgeons Canada. Dr. Al Saadi was also awarded with the first clinician price in 2003 in McGill. Following that he obtained a fellowship in cornea and anterior Segment from the University of Montreal in the year 2007. He completed his Executive master’s in Healthcare Administration in 2010 with (Distinction with Honour). He has been working in ZMH. He established the Cornea transplant program in the year 2008 in ZMH. Additionally, he also introduced the up-to-date cornea procedure to ZMH. He has done more than 1500 Refractive procedures. He is actively involved in teaching in the UAE University and various residency programs in the UAE. He has a special interest in Keratoconus.

Ahmed Alneyadi

Dr. Alneyadi received the German Board of Ophthalmology (Facharzt) after practising ophthalmology from 2011 until 2017 in Ludwig-Maximilian University Eye Hospital Munich, Germany. He earned the European Board of Ophthalmology (Paris, France) in May 2017.

Ammar Safar

Ammar Safar is an American Board-Certified ophthalmologist and is a highly experienced consultant in Vitreoretinal diseases and surgery. He is the Medical Director of Moorfields Eye Hospitals in the UAE. He is based in Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai.

Dr. Safar undertook his medical training in Syria before moving to the United States for post-graduate training. He specialised in Ophthalmology at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where he also served as a Chief Resident. He then acquired an additional 2-year fellowship training in Vitreoretinal Diseases & Surgery at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, USA. Dr. Safar then went on to hold the position of Assistant and later Associate Professor and Director of Vitreoretinal Surgery at the Department of Ophthalmology, Jones Eye Institute, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, in the United States. He then relocated to the UAE where he was a Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon and President of Medical Staff at a private general hospital in Dubai.

In addition to his work in private practice, Dr. Safar has undertaken research and clinical trials in areas such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related eye diseases, and published and presented extensively. His research work has also resulted in advances in retinal vascular diseases (discovering new management options for diabetic retinopathy and vascular occlusive disorders) and in macular degeneration (new approaches for treatment of exudative macular degeneration).

Among his many honorary awards, Dr. Safar was the inaugural recipient of The Martha Wood Bentley endowed Chair of Ophthalmology at the University of Arkansas. He is also a member of a number of professional associations including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists, European Society of Retina Specialists, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, The Association for Research In Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), Arab-American Medical Association, Research to Prevent Blindness, and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Darakhshanda Khurram is experienced in Retinopathy of Prematurity screening and management (an eye disease affecting premature babies). She is also experienced in all types of squint (strabismus) surgery (including the use of botulinum toxin).

Dr. Khurram studied medicine at the Rawalpindi Medical College, Pakistan, and undertook a post-graduate fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow, UK. She completed her fellowship training in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Great Ormond Street Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital, in London, UK. Emad Abboud

Dr Abboud did a first residency in Ophthalmology at the Quinze-Vingts National Ophthalmology center in Paris from 1983-1986, and then a second residency at the University of Chicago 1986-1989. He was the Chief Resident the last 18 months of his residency. He then proceeded to Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia where he completed a two year fellowship in Diseases and Surgery of the Retina and Intraocular Tumors. He became a diplomate of American Board of Ophthalmology in 1991. Dr Abboud then joined the Vitreoretinal Division at the King Khaled eye Specialist Hospital KKESH for a professional journey which lasted 22 years. He served as the Chief of the Vitreoretinal division from 1996 to 2008, Associate Medical Director from 1999 to 2007, and then the Medical Director from 2007-2010. Dr Abboud joined Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi in 2013, where he is presently chairman of the Posterior Segment department. Francesco Pichi

Francesco Pichi graduated summa cum laude from the Alma Mater Studiorum of the Univeristy of Bologna and went on to pursue his Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Milan under the mentorship of Prof. Giovanni Staurenghi. He underwent a preceptorship in uveitis and ocular immunology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute (University of Miami, USA). Dr. Pichi has pursued a two years’ fellowship with Dr. Careen Lowder at Cole Eye Institute (Cleveland Clinic, USA) in uveitis and ocular inflammations and infections, before joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.

Dr. Pichi has to his credit more than 100 presentations in both international and national conferences and 80 peer reviewed publications. He has authored 11 chapters in various text books. He was awarded for the best paper and best poster presentation at American Academy of Ophthalmology 2015 and 2017, and also received the International Ophthalmology Educational Award (2016), the International Scholar Award (2018) and the Achievement Award (2018) from AAO.

He is a reviewer of various peer reviewed international ophthalmology journals and is the Section Editor for “International Ophthalmology”.

He has done his postgraduate training in Oculoplastic and orbital surgery at Nottingham University hospital and London Western Eye Hospital, UK. Dr. Eatamadi’s main subject of interest is medical and surgical management oculoplastics, lacrimal and orbital diseases of the eye. He has special interest in thyroid eye disease, orbital immunological diseases and orbital tumours in UAE.

In 2008 he joined Tawam hospital where he established the first Oculoplastics and Orbital Service in any UAE government hospital. In September 2011 he transferred to Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Abu-Dhabi. At SKMC he continued to develop this service and currently Sheikh Khalifa Medical City is one of the major referral centers for oculoplastics, lacrimal and orbital surgery for all SEHA facilities as well as form other UAE Emirates. He has established – together – with the endocrinologists at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City a joint thyroid-ophthalmology clinic where all those patients who need special attention are evaluated and treated. In addition Dr. Eatamadi has special interest in paediatric and adult immunological diseases of the eye and he does a joint clinic with the immunologist at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City. Dr Eatamadi is the associate program director of the residency program at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City and is actively involved in teaching the residents. He has presented in many national and international meetings and conferences.

Hachemi Nezzar

Prof. Dr Nezzar Hachemi MD, PhD, FEBO, is an oculoplastic ophthalmic surgeon & Strabismologist. Currently chief of pediatric and oculoplastic units in Dubai Hospital. He raised in France with full French education, he completed the full training program in Ophthalmology and the European Board of Ophthalmology.

He completed two fellowship programs in pediatric-Stabismus and Oculoplastics-Orbital surgery.

In addition to his heavy clinical practice, Dr Nezzar Hachemi has an active interest in the academia.

He obtained a PhD in neurosciences in the French research center of Blaise Pascal University Auvergne. He teaches Medicine and ophthalmology for several years in France as professor and in the UAE as Residency Program Director in Dubai. He published number of paper and book chapters in the field of ophthalmology as well as in neurosciences. He is associate editor of Dubai Medical Journal.

Before moving to Dubai, Dr Nezzar was head of pediatric & Oculoplastic ophthalmology at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center in Riyad, teaching at Al Faisal University.

Hamed Anwar

Dr. Anwar is an Ophthalmic consultant based at Moorfields Eye Center, Abu Dhabi. He has over 17 years of ophthalmic experience with a special interest in Cataract, Cornea and Refractive surgery.

Dr Anwar trained in the UK and undertook his Corneal Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital London; he holds fellowships from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in London as well as from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons from Glasgow. He is on the GMC specialist register for Ophthalmology.

He is an active member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the International Society of Refractive Surgery, and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He previously held a post as an Associate Clinical Lecturer at the Institute of Neuroscience at Newcastle University.

His work on lamellar corneal transplantation has earned him several accolades including Best papers of session at the ASCRS and the UKISCRS, along with two Golden Ribbons from the AAO.

He is an active educator, both at a postgraduate and undergraduate level, including several of his articles being featured in international publications including Cornea, Clinical Ophthalmology Journal and the Journal of Refractive Surgery. He has also presented at several international conferences including ESCRS, ARVO, ASCRS, and the AAO.

In 2008, he pursued AAPOS Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Retinal Dystrophy from McGill University, Montreal, Canada followed by second Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Fellowship from largest program in North America at Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada.

Earlier, after completing 5 years residency from Aligarh Muslim University in 2003, Dr. Khan undertook his anterior segment training at prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences for phacoemulsification and later in Nepal for small incision cataract surgery. He served as an Assistant Professor in Ophthalmology at esteemed Tribhuvan University, Nepal in 2004-05. He was then appointed with Orbis International and Government of Guyana to serve Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for providing large scale cataract and glaucoma surgical initiative and operated thousands of patients. While continuing to work as a Consultant in St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Guyana, he gained experience as a general ophthalmologist but his interest in pediatrics ophthalmology was strengthened alongside his developing interest in adult motility disorders.

Dr. Neri was an Honorary Research Fellow in Uveitis at the Eye Department, University of Aberdeen, scientist visitor at the University of Tübingen and Visiting Professor at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. In 2010, he was named Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Polytechnic University of Marche-Ancona.

He was a medical Retina Consultant and Clinical Ocular Immunology Consultant and at the Ospedali Riuniti “Umberto I-GM Lancisi-G Salesi” of Ancona. He was also the Director of the Ocular Immunology Service at the Ospedali Riuniti “Umberto I-GM Lancisi-G Salesi” of Ancona since 2007.

Dr. Neri is a member of the International Ocular Inflammation Society (IOIS), the European Society of Retina Specialists (EURETINA), International Uveitis Study Group (IUSG) and the European Association for Vision and Eye Research (EVER) and has served EVER as a Section Program Secretary for Immunology/Microbiology Section since 2010 and became the Section President in 2016.

Prof. Rajesh Sasikumar has been with the glaucoma and cataract services of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi since September 2016. He also has an appointment as Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner School of Medicine, Ohio, USA, affiliated to Case Western Reserve University. Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, he held dual roles as a senior consultant in Glaucoma Services and as a Deputy Director of Research at Narayana Nethralaya, a tertiary eye hospital in India.

Prof. Sasikumar earned his medical degree from the University of Mysore, India, and residency from the Institute of Ophthalmology, Joseph Eye Hospital, Trichy, India. He consequently worked as a senior registrar at the Christian Medical College, Vellore, India and as an adjunct researcher in the glaucoma services at the L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India. He later went on to pursue a clinical fellowship in Glaucoma at the Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital, Australia. He spent the next four years at the Singapore Eye Research Institute and Singapore National Eye Center, Singapore, as a Senior Clinical Research Fellow. He holds an adjunct professor position in ophthalmology at the M S Ramaiah Medical School in India.

Prof. Sasikumar is experienced with complex surgical procedures for both Cataract and Glaucoma, and has trained residents and fellows at various institutes.

He has been an invited speaker at many international conferences and has over 50 publications and is a reviewer for peer-reviewed journals. Further, he has been a principal and co-investigator in glaucoma related clinical trials on therapeutics, imaging, clinical course and surgical outcomes. Prof. Sasikumar’s primary research interests include angle closure disease pathogenesis, imaging, proteomics and biomarker determination in glaucoma.
